Fun and Friendly – That’s Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking's been around for hundreds of years. Originally a means to store and organize information such as drawings, recipes, quotes, letters, poems, etc, by the 16th century, it had evolved and was often referred to as a friendship album.
In modern day, scrapbooking really became popular in the 1970s because of Marielen Christensen. The 50 books she made by 1980 were displayed at the World Conference on Records.

The scrapbooking industry is now gigantic and growing. It doubled in size between 2005 and 2011 (wikipedia). Over 1,600 companies create scrapbooking products. One reason this is so popular is the strong social aspect associated with it.

"Scrappers" gravitate to each other's homes, community centers, conventions, and as well as scrapbooking retreats. Because of cheap and available technology, digital scrapbooking has become very popular and many scrapbooking forums have appeared where people around the world can freely share tips, layouts, and other tricks they have learned. Serious scrapbookers have their own cutting machines, amongst the most popular being Cricut, Cuttlebug or Gypsy by Provo Craft.

Scrapbooking is a great way to pass a low stress day, and a great way to make friends.
