UGG BOOTS: THE FOREIGN CONNECTION
I had a visit from an old friend the other week. He was a Russian geologist. On the second last night of his stay, he commented about how cold his feet were.
”No problem,” was all I said as, with a smile on my face, I gave him my spare set of Ugg boots.
“Give these a try,” I said. He slipped them on and a minute later I could see the amazement in his eyes.
In utter incredulity, he began to interrogate me about where I had sourced the boots. Now it was me who was taken aback. Despite living in one of the hottest places on Earth, Australia, I make sure to have at least one or two pairs of winter sheepskin Ugg boots. Then here comes a guy from Russia, possibly one of the coldest places there is and he's totally ignorant about Ugg boots.
”Simply amazing,” he said, and I could see straight off he was sold. With a little giggle I told him that he could keep that pair if he wanted. He politely declined, explaining that he planned on getting several pairs for his family.
The next morning he was gone before I arose armed with a mountain of information on how to go about buying Ugg boots that I had given him. He returned in the afternoon with several pairs of boots, other assorted woollen products and an international internet order form.
“My kids will love these.” I laughed at how something that was so run-of-the-mill to Australians could be considered such a novelty for him. It gets numbingly chilly in Russia so I guess I can understand his excitement.
He departed a few days later with an extra suitcase loaded with Ugg boots and I have to wonder, did I just open up a new international market for Australian Ugg boots?
Personally I use Prestige Sheepskin in Perth when I purchase Ugg boots. And I cannot recommend their sheepskin car seat covers enough. I have found their attention to detail, customer service and product quality to be without comparison. My faith in them has been rewarded by my being able to give my Russian friend a quality contact for something really hot for cold feet !.
