Tips For DIY Beach Parties: Create Your Own Party Invitations
Party-givers have access to a tremendous selection of free printable party invitations these days. It seems like no matter what the occasion, there are an unbelievable number of free printable invitations you can print at home. As might be expected, there are many general invitation types, such as free baby shower invitations. But if you're throwing a beach-themed party, you'll want invitations that make that clear.
Thankfully, there are numerous beach party invitations that will help your guests get in a beachy mood weeks before the day of the party. And if your party will be a luau, there are even quite a few free luau party invitations available. These printable invitations are usually fairly easy to prepare if you have access to a word processing program, like Open Office or MS Word; or a publishing program, such as PagePlus or Microsoft Publisher. Simply place the invitation graphic into the application, make it the size you want and print it out. But as basic as that is, there are some subtleties it pays to be aware of when making the invitations. The following tips will help you understand those subtle elements and help you to attain the best results from the free invitation art:
- When using MS Word or other word processing software, use tables or text boxes to get two or more invitations on the page. This will save you a lot of time -- and card stock. (You'll probably find that using a table is the easier route to take. If you're not proficient with tables or text boxes, check your word processing software's help materials.) Be sure to butt at least one at least one side of one invitation to the other, so you can eliminate one cut.
- When cutting the invitations, using a paper cutter is your best bet. If you don't have one, hire someone to cut them, either at a print shop, copy center or office supply store. If you don't have access to a paper cutter at all, another approach is to use an ruler, X-acto knife and some kind of board that will protect your tabletop from cuts. And if all else fails, you can use scissors. If you go that route, draw light pencil lines first, so you'll see where to cut. If you can't cut straight, use patterned scissors that will hide the imperfections in the cutting.
- Once the invitations are cut out, you can enhance them to make them unique. You'll find a vast array of beach themed decorations at your neighborhood craft store. These include die cut paper embellishments, silk tropical flowers, rhinestones and many other surprising elements you may have never even seen before. Three-dimensional paint or glitter glue can also be used to customize the invitations. Be careful with this, however, because this is one area that less is truly more. Use the glue or paint sparingly. And you'll want to have extra invitations on-hand, so you can try it out until you get the best look.
