Easy Easter Basket Projects
While filling an Easter basket is always fun you can take it a step further by using your Easter basket to do a craft. You can turn the Easter basket that you are filling into a work of art or something totally different. Get out of the rut of using the same Easter basket every year! Here are some great Easter basket projects!
A color-themed Easter basket. Choose a colorful theme for this Easter basket. Easter pastels work well or your childs favorite color can serve as the theme. Here's what you will need:
- Any size or shape basket
- Ribbon
- Treats (all the same color)
- Paper
- Easter grass
- Scissors
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
Instructions for the project: Begin by choosing a color theme. Fill your basket with Easter grass. Tie on ribbons or other adornments that match your color theme. Chose treats that match your color theme to fill the basket. You can choose from a variety of items: stuffed animals, toy tops, candy, chocolate bunnies, colored markers, socks, T-shirts, or pencils. Add a paper tag that coordinates with your color choice (i.e., a purple theme basket could have a tulip or lilac). Another colorful tag option is to dab on paints all in shades of the specific color onto the basket.
The Nature basket. This basket is perfect for your little nature lover. This sweet, grassy basket celebrates spring as well as Easter. What you will need:
- Shallow, handle less basket with a wide mouth
- Clear vinyl saucer
- Potting soil
- Ryegrass seed
- Water
- Un-dyed hard-boiled eggs
- Bunny cookies
- Animal figurines
- Chocolate eggs
- Brown paper bag
- Scissors
- Raffia
Time needed: Weekend Project
Instructions for the project: Fill the clear vinyl saucer with potting soil and sprinkle on a layer of ryegrass seed, cover with a very thin layer of soil, and thoroughly spray with water. Keep the saucer in a sunny window and spritz daily. It will take about 10 days for the grass to reach a few inches high. Gently place the saucer into the basket. Put the hard-boiled eggs, cookies, figurines and chocolate bunnies on top of the grass. Tie on a raffia bow. Other things to include might be seed packets, a bird guidebook, or a magnifying glass.
The Bunny Basket. This is a basket after the Easter Bunny's own heart. What you will need:
- Deep straw basket with handles
- Paper
- Scissors
- Double-sided tape
- Pink pom-pom
- Cotton balls
- Pipe cleaner
- White felt
- Pink, wire-edged ribbon
- Glue
- Paper crimp filling
- Chocolate rabbits
- Bunny storybook
- Stuffed rabbit
- Dyed eggs
- Candies
- Construction paper
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
Instructions for the project: Draw and cut out paper eyes for the bunny's face. Using double-sided tape, attach them to the basket. Glue or tape on a pom-pom nose, two cotton-ball cheeks, and a pipe-cleaner mouth. For the ears, you will need to cut two white felt ear shapes and two slightly smaller ones from pink, wire-edged ribbon. Carefully glue the ribbon onto the felt and tape the ears to the basket handle. Now it's time to fill the basket with crimped paper grass, bunny books, stuffed rabbits, chocolate bunnies and other candies, and some Easter eggs. You could also use bunny stickers, figurines or notepaper for filling the basket.
The Flowerpot Basket. As this pretty terra cotta pot proves, a traditional basket is not the only container that can hold Easter treasures. What you will need:
- Terra-cotta flowerpot
- Acrylic paint
- Puff Paint
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Large lollipop
- Tape
- Pen
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
Instructions for the project: Completely paint the pot with nontoxic acrylic paints. When the pot is completely dry add an Easter greeting with puffy paint. For the flower, cut out some paper petals and tape them to the back of an oversize lollipop, wrap the lollipop stick with green paper to make a stem, and then plant it in the pot. If you want to personalize the pot, you can write the person's name on a simple green construction paper leaf or paint their name on the flowerpot. For a nice finishing touch use gummy worms, ladybug stickers, candy eggs and butterfly barrettes to fill the baskets.
