You most likely have an idea of the various scuba gear accessible on the market if you have shopped for it. The competition is pretty intense for your money, but that is only good for the consumer. What can make it more interesting for you are the people who are trying to sell their personal scuba gear. Perhaps they bought more sophisticated supplies and there isn't a necessity for holding on to what they had, another reason might be that they don't find scuba diving interesting anymore. Additionally there are those that won't scuba dive anymore for their own personal thoughts, therefore they hope to sell their belongings. Scuba diving can be very fun, but to make it safe and worry free, two basic types of equipment are necessary. The reason that you are diving, and the conditions as to where you are will determine what equipment you will need.
Common with most recreational divers, what is called the open circuit set up is the most popular. The closed-circuit, or semi-closed circuit, is often called a rebreather configuration. This particular type was the first to exist, it preceded the open-circuit, however it is not used as much as the open-circuit. In the closed-circuit, the diver will breathe back into the equipment, and then the exhaled gas is made fit to breathe again. There is an old-style design that is called the twin-hose configuration, and that was the very first design for a demand valve to achieve widespread use. As you can ascertain by the name "twin-hose", this system uses two cylinders and hoses, but it didn't start out that way. When Cousteau first designed the system it only had one hose, but when he tried it out in the River Marne there was a problem and it was necessary to add the second tube. This large valve assembly was attached at the top of the cylinder pack, usually with an A-Clamp. The twin tubes were used for breathe inhalation and the other for exhaust, or exhalation. Extreme care had to be exercised during the design phase to adequately address any potential safety issues. For example, most units have a one-way valve placed into the mouthpiece to keep air or water from going into the inhalation tube.
Technical divers will often be found diving to greater depths than most care to go. Diving in waters that are extremely deep require special skills, acquirements, and an awareness that only veterans typically have. These deep sea divers will be using special mixtures of gas, and they will carry redundant gas systems along with them for emergency back-up. An example of this is what is called a pony cylinder. These are actually a completely separate unit having separate mouthpieces, demand regulators, and hoses on each unit. These are typically used if you run out of air or there is a problem with your scuba set or unit.
Once you have received your certification and have your scuba equipment, then you are ready to begin your lifetime journey as a scuba diver. Even if you get bored with diving in the ocean, there are many other places that you can dive as well. In fact, there are many divers who mainly dive in fresh waters such as lakes and quarries. Diving alone is not a good idea which means you should always go with a buddy.
